Siblings charged with neglect after father dies from bedsore

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Two siblings have been accused of neglecting their father, who authorities say died from a large bedsore that caused him to become septic.
Multiple media outlets report that 41-year-old Ronya Vereen and 38-year-old Albert Vereen Jr., both of Longs, were charged Tuesday with abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death.
Horry County Coroner Robert Edge says 63-year-old Albert Lee Vereen died at a hospital on Aug. 7.
Horry County police Lt. Raul Denis says Albert Vereen had complained about abdominal pain to medical personnel, who examined him and noticed a bedsore stretching from his shoulders to his buttocks.
The victim told police the bedsore was new and his two children — the suspects — took care of him. The man died the next morning.
Jail records don’t indicate if the suspects have attorneys.
