Horry County inmate found unresponsive, dies at hospital

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) _ The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating after an Horry County jail inmate was found unresponsive and later died at a hospital. Deputies tell local media outlets that 60-year-old Jerome Floyd of Conway died about 5 p.m. Thursday. Floyd was found unresponsive in his cell about an hour earlier. The jail medical staff performed CPR and the inmate was taken to the hospital. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death. Floyd had been arrested earlier this week on a charge of public intoxication. SLED is routinely called in to investigate the deaths of jail inmates.
