College students gather for half-day service program
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Students, faculty and staff from the University of South Carolina are gathering to kick off their first “Service Saturday.”
The event helps students organize for local community support projects and will be repeated periodically through the academic year.
In the past, students’ volunteer work has included projects that assist the homeless, the hungry, or to repair housing.
Transportation is provided to the service sites.
Service Saturdays usually run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. But other service opportunities are available to students throughout the year and during their academic breaks.
