Man gets 30 years for shooting death at kid’s birthday party

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for shooting another man to death during a child’s birthday party in Belton and plotting to have three witnesses kidnapped. Prosecutor Chrissy Adams says 61-year-old Bobby Joe Arflin was sentenced Thursday after being found guilty of crimes including murder and an attempt to kidnap three witnesses. Authorities say Arflin ran into 41-year-old Jody Adam Powell’s truck in Belton while Powell was attending a child’s birthday party. When Powell went outside to see what was going on, authorities say Arflin shot him to death. While awaiting trial last year, officials say Arflin offered land to a cellmate in exchange for kidnapping three witnesses against him. The other inmate reported the plot to law enforcement.
