Gamecocks to Honor Emanuel AME Victims

COLUMBIA, S.C. — This season, the Gamecock football players will wear a sticker on their helmets honoring the nine lives lost in the Emanuel AME Church shootings in June. The sticker is a drawing of a palmetto tree with nine doves representing the palms. “Our team felt like it would be appropriate to have a sticker on their helmet in honor and memory of the nine people that lost their lives in Charleston this summer,” said USC Coach Steve Spurrier Sunday. According to USC, the original logo was designed by artist Gil Shuler of Mount Pleasant. The Gamecocks will wear the stickers on their helmets for the duration of the season starting this Thursday against North Carolina in Charlotte.
