Big dough for Special Olympics of SC
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Area CiCi’s pizza raised nearly $3,000 to benefit the Special Olympics of South Carolina. During the month of July, Columbia and Irmo locations sold paper icons for $1 to benefit Special Olympics South Carolina athletes. In late July, each location held a Cover the Cruiser event where athletes and local law enforcement covered a police cruiser with those paper icons. Local athletes also helped in each store, greeting and serving customers. Mitch Uehling, owner of the Columbia locations said, “It‘s so special to be able to partner with such great athletes and a terrific organization like Special Olympics South Carolina. This event has continued to grow over the last four years and we‘re excited to see it continue to grow in the future.” Leigh Cheatham with Special Olympics South Carolina said the organization offers year round athletic training and competitions for 22,920 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Athletes are currently training in Fall sports for the 2015 State Fall Games to be held in November 6-8 in Greenville.
