Greenville Sheriff: 13-year-old boy stabbed mother to death

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ The Greenville County sheriff says a 13-year-old boy stabbed his mother to death the night before her body was found, and then went to sleep. Sheriff Steve Loftis said at a news conference Thursday that the boy was startled awake Tuesday morning by a contractor. The sheriff says the contractor found the teen in the home’s crawl space with blood dripping through the floorboards. Loftis says the boy ran away. The sheriff says the boy was a straight-A student who confessed to the stabbing and showed little remorse. The sheriff said prosecutors will decide whether to ask a judge to have him tried as an adult. Loftis says it appears the mother tried fought for her life. The boy remains in jail. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
