Haley presents WWII POWs with medals

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — South Carolina‘s surviving prisoners of war from World War II were recognized with the new South Carolina Prisoner of War medal Thursday in a ceremony at the Statehouse. Governor Nikki Haley and Adjutant General Robert Livingston presented medals to 12 veterans. State Senator Wes Hayes (R-Rock Hill) sponsored the law that created the medal. It went into effect in 2014. Sept. 2 was the 70th anniversary of the formal surrender of Japan, also known as V-J Day, when victory of Japan was officially announced and World War II ended.
