Residents Concerned Over Shooting
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “I was told there was a gang shooting in my yard about three weeks before i moved in, so that concerns me, i heard there were 41 shell casings found in my yard and there is a bullet hole in my house.” While taking her normal stride down Millwood Avenue, Kate is shocked, but not surprised to learn a brazen shooting took place Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 pm. According to Columbia Police, a suspect opened fire on a group of people standing in the drive way. One person was shot in the leg. “It definitely scares me on Millwood having that happen on such a main road. This is an intersection that I frequent, so that’s scary.” The crime scene butts up to Melrose Heights. “it’s a beautiful neighborhood. It was in a national magazine as one of the top historical neighborhoods in the nation.” With a spike in crime, John Powers thinks about his family. “This is the first time i have heard of a shooting and hearing something like that really gives me pause.” As Kate continues on her college path, she hopes for change on the road ahead. “I would just like to feel safer in my own home, in my yard, and in my neighborhood.”
