D-HEC Denies CWS Permit Renwal Request

Lexington, S.C. (WOLO)– Friday the Department of Health and Environmental Control denied Carolina Water Services request for a permit renewal for the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System. That system has come under fire recently by state and community leaders for discharging waste into the Saluda River. ABC Columbia News received a response to the decision from a Carolina Water Service spokesperson. It reads in part; Carolina Water Service Incorporated was not surprised to learn today that D-HEC intends to deny issuance of a renewed National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for the I-20 wastewater treatment facility discharge. Accordingly CWS has already taken an important step in reaching a deal with the town (Lexington ) to remove the discharge from the lower Saluda river.
