Columbia ,S.C. (WOLO) — As signs of fall pop up across the midlands, doctors at Palmetto Health are gearing up for the start of flu season. “The flu is very contagious,” explained Dr. Antoinette Rhynes. Dr. Rhynes said now’s the time for you to get vaccinated. “It takes your body two weeks after you’ve gotten the vaccine to become immunized so for instance getting it now will get you prepared for flu season when it starts in early October,” said Dr.Rhynes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends kids 6 months or older and adults get the vaccine as early as possible. Dr. Rhynes said even if you’re already healthy, the vaccine can help protect you from getting sick when flu season peaks during this winter. “Getting your flu vaccine is important, it’s important you get it for yourself because it protects you, it protects your children,” said Rhynes. Although flu season is still a few weeks away, Dr. Rhynes said flu shots are now available.
