Charleston Rep. Limehouse won’t seek re-election
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Charleston Rep. Chip Limehouse says he will not seek re-election next year.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (http://bit.ly/1P5hqp6) the Republican lawmaker has decided not to seek another term in the House after serving there since 1995.
Limehouse told the newspaper that the decision against seeking another term is one of the hardest he’s had to make.
The 53-year-old lawmaker helped create the South Carolina Infrastructure Bank, which helped finance the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge linking Charleston and Mount Pleasant.
Limehouse is vice chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
He says he’ll focus on his real estate business when he leaves next year. But Limehouse did rule out a future run for office.
