COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Three days after historic flooding struck the Midlands, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says the search effort continues. “We’re almost out of the rescue mode,” he says. “And we’re thinking about the assessment and recovery mode, and that’s going to be a long recovery.” Sheriff Lott says he has around-the-clock forces to keep this operation moving until at least Saturday. Help crews do their job by staying away from flood-torn areas. And when the sun rises, and you’re cleaning-up your property, you should know this. “We’ve also got people coming out and trying to do scams, taking advantage of the victims we’ve got.” Do not be fooled. “Please call law enforcement before you hire anyone to do a cleanup, particularly if they’re asking for money up front.” Tuesday night’s curfew runs from midnight to six Wednesday morning.
