Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — Several days after severe flooding hit the midlands, residents near Lake Katherine are working to rebuild. “It’s just terrible,” described resident John Bradshaw. Bradshaw rescued his parents from their 1960’s style home close to Lake Katherine after they awoke to knee-deep water inside their home. “It’s the most tragic thing I’ve ever done,” said Bradshaw. Within minutes of getting his parents to safety, the water in their home rose leaving only destruction behind. “This is where it crested,” explained Bradshaw. Bradshaw showed the overwhelming devastation of the house he grew up in which showed signs of water damage spanning wall to wall and furniture that is unsalvageable. “We have to tear everything out,” said Bradshaw. Despite the devastation, there is a silver lining in how this tragedy has brought this community together. “It is unbelievable,” said Bradshaw. “The food, the help, the volunteers, it’s great. This is the greatest community in the world.”
