Arrest made in Hit and Run of State Guardsman

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — (RCSD)– Richland County Sheriff announces arrest of Charles Kauffman (DOB: 11/02/1942) in connection with a hit and run of a Guardsman at Harvest Hope. Lott says Kauffman is charged with attempted murder and illegal acts during State of Emergency. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Kauffman was arrested at his residence 404 Holly Ridge Ln, on Saturday, October 10, 2015 just before 10:00 AM. Richland County Sheriff’s Department says investigators following up on significant leads from witnesses and surveillance video led to the arrest. The Sheriff stated that Kauffman deliberately hit a State Guardsmen with his vehicle as he was exiting Harvest Hope Food Bank on Shop Road. The Sheriff added that the victim (a State Guard Military Police Officer) was assisting with traffic control during an emergency food and water distribution at the location.
