South Carolina receives help from states away

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — After more than 1000 miles, a semi truck reached its destination on Wednesday at Leaphart Elementary.The trucks journey began in Neenah Wisconsin. The 53 foot trailer filled with supplies for local families impacted devastated by recent floods. “Having this truck come in and donate these items is just huge for our families so we’re able to meet the needs and take the stress off of their plate,” says Leaphart Elementary Principal Kelly Brown. Along with the items, a message to South Carolina from the Neenah community According to the truck’s driver Wayne Peters, “Everybody back in Wisconsin, everybody back in that part of the country is praying for you guys. They really want you to pull together and if you need anything else we can do to help, please let us know.” Two Wisconsin 5th graders were particularly determined to help. Horace Mann Middle School students Josie Fischer and Rachel Frank spearheaded the “Flood the Truck” campaign, collecting the essential items and organizing their transportation. Brown explains,”To extend beyond state lines and reach out across the country to help with each other says amazing things about these students across the nation.” The unloaded truck-ful of supplies fills an entire classroom and in the coming weeks all of the items will be distributed to families throughout the area. Chapin High School student Joanna Dyckes tell’s ABC Columbia, “It’s really hit home that people don’t have anything anymore and I think it’s just a really amazing thing that somebody so far away could really understand what this has done to our state.” Chapin High School Students who spent the morning unloading the truck had their own message for Josie, Rachel and the Neenah Community. A message of gratitude for the outpouring of support from states away.
