Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — As the City of Columbia continues flood recovery efforts, the state fair is also dealing with a boil water advisory. State Fair officials say they are working around the boil water advisory to accommodate fair goers and vendors. Vendor John Class visits the South Carolina State Fair annually to serve up a variety of different cinnamon rolls unique to taste. Class said this year he is running his stand a little different due to the boil water advisory still in place after devastating floods hit here in the midlands. “We are using distilled water for everything we do; cooking, dishes, everything,” explained Class. In fact, that‘s the practice in place for all vendors at the State Fair this year. Assistant State Fair General Manager Nancy Smith said they are making sure distilled water is consistently on hand to make sure the health and safety of fair goers is maintained. While dealing with the water concern was a big challenge to overcome, officials said making these small changes allows the community to come together and celebrate tradition after being hit by historic floods. “People are ready for some fun, ready for some family time, and ready for a bright spot,” said Smith.
