Orangeburg Co. man arrested in murder for hire

ORANGEBURG, SC (WOLO) — Deputies with the Orangeburg County Sheriff‘s Office have charged an Elloree man with attempting to initiate a murder for hire scheme against his girlfriend‘s husband. Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said the charge against 34-year-old Derrick Nelson Stone came on Oct. 2 after a months-long investigation into the allegations of a murder plot in play. “We delayed releasing this information in order that we could insure there were no other threats in play against this couple,” Ravenell said. “We weren‘t going to going to assume it was over once we‘d established one legitimate threat. Our investigators made sure there were no more.” Bond was set on Stone at $25,000 cash or surety after he was served with a warrant charging him with solicitation to commit a felony. The threats were levied against a 33-year-old Orangeburg County man, who told investigators he had received threats via social media from his estranged wife and her new boyfriend. When the OCSO was notified on July 29, an in-depth investigation into the allegations was begun. Investigators learned the plan was for Stone to pay the would-be hit man $2,500 now and another $2,500 after the victim was dead.
