Sumter, S.C. (WOLO) — Team South Carolina Days are designed to be one stop shopping for all those working to recover from recent flooding. Curtis and Jennifer Clark are two of thousands statewide faced with the daunting task of starting over after flooding destroyed their home. “The carpets were all wet, there was water coming from electrical sockets and mold growing all over the wall so we really couldn’t go back in there. That’s all we had,” says flood victim Jennifer Clark. The couple’s story is one of dozens, with similar devastating endings, heard by Governor Nikki Haley at the first Team South Carolina day. According to Governor Haley,”It’s painful to hear the stories because they’ve lost a lot and they’re scared and our job is to show them that it’s going to be okay.” The Governor says part of that reassurance is providing effected individuals with information and immediate resources during recovery. “FEMA is not going to be the catch all for everything so we don’t want to wait for that, we want to make sure we know that we’ve got resources here now,” says the Governor. And a majority of those service providers were in attendance at the flood relief event.FEMA, Red Cross, DNR and so many more all in one spot to answer questions and provide supplies for flood victims. Governor Haley says, “As long as there is someone that is without, as long as there is someone that still has a question we’re going to keep answering and keep doing everything we can to touch those people and get them what they need.” Flood victims like the Clark’s say convenient access to resources is helpful as they continue rebuilding and focusing on the positive. “My kids are okay and they’re safe and I have my family so I guess the material things don’t really matter,” says Clark. Friday’s Team South Carolina day is the first of many the next one will be held on Tuesday in Lower Richland.
