Columbia , S.C. (WOLO) — Three weeks after historic floods hit the midlands, hundreds of volunteers continue to help with the recovery efforts. “There are angels among us and I’m proud to say they are in Columbia,” said Teri Stomski. In the South Beltline area, Stomski and several volunteers helped distribute donations to Columbia’s flood victims. For weeks, they’ve had a large supply tent with goods spanning from bleach to food and clothing. Stomski came up with the idea days after the flood when she realized there was a need in that area. “There was no one here,” said Stomski. “I said this is not Columbia, this is not the way Columbia would react, nobody must know they are down here.” Immediately she sprung into action. She rallied volunteers, coordinated donations, and set up a Facebook and Go-Fund-Me page for residents hit by the floods. “It’s been an amazing show of empathy and compassion,” said resident and volunteer Rachel Larrett. Larrett is a resident near South Beltline impacted by the floods. Despite her own troubles she too spends days under the tent determined to help others. “We’re at the point where there isn’t a lot of tearing down dry wall but it’s picking up after,” said Larrett. Larrett said they will continue to help residents as long as they are needed. To help you can visit their website southbeltlineclean, com or their Facebook page: S.
