Lexington County scheduled to host rain barrel workshop

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Officials in Lexington County are offering people an opportunity to learn how to harvest and use rainwater.
The Lexington Countywide Stormwater Consortium is hosting a “Build Your Own Rain Barrel” workshop on Friday at the Public Works Building on Ball Park Road in Lexington.
County public works officials will talk about storm water runoff and rainwater harvesting, then help attendees build their own rain barrels to take home.
Water collected is typically used to do things like water a garden or wash a car.
Officials say stormwater runoff picks up pollutants like motor oil and pesticides before merging into local waterways. They say cutting down on runoff can help people save water, money and reduce pollution.
The cost to attend the workshop and make your own rain barrel is $25.
