Manhunt underway after ATM ripped from ground in Chester County

CHESTER COUNTY, (WSOC) — A manhunt is underway in Chester County after deputies said two men ripped out an ATM from a drive-through early Friday morning. The incident happened at the Founders Federal Credit Union just before 4 a.m. and police were able to track down the ATM about eight miles away using GPS. When a patrol car caught up to the suspect’s pickup truck — which was hauling the ATM — the robbers crashed and fled on foot. Nothing was stolen from the ATM and all credit union members’ information is safe, according to officials. The Chester County sheriff told Channel 9 two men ripped the ATM — which is worth about $60,000 — from the ground around 3:35 a.m. It was unknown if the men had weapons but the sheriff said that a reverse 911 call went out to residents in the area with a warning about the crime. No description of the robbers — who are still on the loose — has been released. Channel 9 reporter Angela Hong is at a scene on Lizzie Melton Road near Interstate 77 in the Richburg area where there is heavy police presence linked to the robbery. The elementary, middle and high school in the Lewisville area are on modified lockdown as police look for the men. Chester County deputies along with York County, Union County, DNR, SLED and state troopers are helping in the search. Photo courtesy of WSOC
