Authorities investigate person found dead in apartment

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after they say a person was found dead in Orangeburg.

Local media outlets report the person was found dead in a Roosevelt Gardens apartment Thursday evening. Sheriff Leroy Ravenel said at this point, the death is being investigated as a homicide as standard protocol until a cause of death can be determined.

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Richard Walker says officers were called just before 6 p.m. about the discovery of the deceased individual. According to investigators, an acquaintance of the person found the victim inside the unit.

Orangeburg County Coroner Samuetta Marshall said the death was still being investigated and that she could provide no additional information immediately.
