Georgetown County Detention Center officer arrested

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WOLO — A Georgetown County Detention Center officer has been arrested for taking money from inmates, said Lt. Neil Johnson, with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. James E. Drye, III, 35, was charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent and misconduct in office after taking money from the Georgetown County Detention Center’s Inmates Account, Johnson added. Deputies started investigating on Nov. 2 after GCDC administration discovered funds were missing from the account, according to a news release. Once the funds were discovered missing, deputies received paperwork from the bank that showed the funds were fraudulently obtained. Deputies said that during the investigation they learned that in September of 2014, Drye had fraudulently obtained the funds by cashing a check, which he made out to himself in the amount of $550. Drye, who has been serving with the Georgetown County Detention Center since August 18, 2003, is currently being held at the GCDC awaiting a bond hearing.
