Candidates head South…Airport security enhancements…Officers charged

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has drawn a sharp contrast between himself and presidential rival Hillary Rodham Clinton. In a televised candidates’ forum in South Carolina, Sanders noted his opposition to the war in Iraq and his refusal to accept super PAC donations. Clinton, interviewed separately, said she’ll defend Democratic principles. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley was also interviewed by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Homeland Security Department isn’t going into details, but says there will be enhanced security procedures in the wake of last Saturday’s crash of a Russian jetliner over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. DHS says the focus will be on commercial flights bound for the U.S. from certain overseas airports in the region. There are no direct flights to the United States from the Sinai airport where the doomed flight departed.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is showing support Greg Hardy after photos of the bruised ex-girlfriend from the defensive end’s domestic violence case were released by Deadspin. Jones said the team hadn’t seen the photos before signing Hardy to an incentive-laden $13 million free agent contract in March, but the Cowboys “were and are aware of the serious nature of this incident.” Hardy took no questions from a reporter on Friday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump is set to become only the second active presidential candidate to host “Saturday Night Live.” The other was the Rev. Al Sharpton in 2003. Only eight politicians have hosted the show in its entire 40-year-history. NBC has been pressured by a coalition of groups who oppose the appearance. The groups say Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants being “rapists” and “criminals” are racist.
