COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — A male took home top honors at Columbia’s InnovateHER competition Thursday night. Columbia resident Anthony Nedd and his “Rooster Booster” made the lasting impression on the panel of judges. The product jump-starts your car without jumper cables. Nedd was one of eight pitchers- and the only male- given five minutes to sell their product or service at U.S.C.’s Darla Moore School of Business. The judges scored each entrepreneur based on the good’s impact on women and their families’ lives, commercialization potential and the need for the product or service. The competition was started by the Small Business Association because of the growing number of women in the workplace. The idea was to get people thinking about ways to help ease the transition moms and their kids must make. This is the city’s second second year holding it. Last year’s winner placed fourth nationally. Nedd says he got the idea from the women in his life, who were freaked out about using jumper cables. The next step is submitting Nedd’s entry to SBA. We’ll know in Jaunary whether he’ll be representing the state with the Rooster Booster in Washington, D.C. in March.
