Two More Charged with Witness Intimidation in Pinewood Assault Case
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO) — The Sumter County Sheriff‘s Office has charged two additional men with intimidating a witness in connection to an assault case from September. 32-year-old Mark Floyd and his brother 26-year-old Martin Floyd, of Pinewood, have each been charged with a single count of intimidation of court officials, jurors or witnesses. Mark Floyd, along with three other men, was charged back in September with first-degree assault and battery for their alleged involvement in assaulting a 20-year-old man at a residence in the 7000 block of Connector Road in Pinewood, beating him about the head and body. Then, in October, shortly after a preliminary hearing for two of the suspects in the Pinewood assault case, a witness to the alleged assault received messages on social media from Martin Floyd threatening the witness if they were to testify. During questioning by investigators, Martin Floyd admitted to sending the messages on behalf of Mark Floyd. Both men were taken into custody and transported to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center to await a bond hearing. Earlier this week, 24-year-old Sumter resident William Ard was also charged with intimidation of court officials, jurors, or witnesses for his involvement in the harassment of a witness in the same case. Bond was set at $5,000 for Ard‘s additional charge.
