Former Wando High Principal Lucy Beckham Dies
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Lucy Beckham, the longtime Wando High School principal, has died, school district officials announced Monday.
Beckham first started her tenure at Wando in 1998, part of her 40 years of service as an educator. In 2009, Beckham was named the National High School Principal of the Year.
“Lucy’s passion and love for her students was evident every day,” said CCSD Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait. “She left a mark on the lives of everyone with whom she interacted and will be deeply missed. Our condolences go out to her family and loved ones.”
During her time at Wando, Beckham received a number of national awards, including being named one of the best high schools in the country. In a statement released Monday, Charleston County School District officials also pointed out Beckham’s guiding hand in the creation of Wando’s Center for Advanced Studies.
This past July, Beckham was named the executive principal of East Cooper Schools.
Funeral arrangements for Beckham have not been released.
