Long-time USC football verbal commit Brandon McIlwain officially chose to be a Gamecock Thursday afternoon.
McIlwain, an Elite 11 high school quarterback from Pennsylvania ranked as one of the best dual-threat QBs in the country, was also weighing a future in professional baseball. ESPN ranked McIlwain as the #16 high school baseball prospect in the country.
“I’ve decided to forgo the MLB draft,” McIlwain tweeted Thursday, “and enroll early to play baseball and football at SC #WeCocky #ForeverToThee”.
McIlwain has family in the South Carolina area and is expected to play both baseball and football this spring.
“Holy moly!!” USC baseball coach Chad Holbrook tweeted minutes after McIlwain made his decision. “Great day to be a Gamecock! Spurs are definitely up!!!”
