Waterpark Addition Taking Shape at Carowinds Theme Park
FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) — Carolina Harbor Waterpark is taking shape at Carowinds, the theme park that straddles the South Carolina-North Carolina state line south of Charlotte.
Local media outlets report that reporters got a glimpse Wednesday of the construction of the 25-acre water complex that’s being built where the old Thunder Road roller coaster once stood.
A Carowinds spokeswoman said Thursday the expanded waterpark is scheduled to open in May.
It will feature Seaside Splashworks, a multi-level children’s play area with a more-than 400 gallon bucket that will tip and splash the kids.
Blackbeard’s Revenge is a six-story attraction with three water slides. There’s also the Surf Harbor Club, a wave pool that will feature 6-foot waves.
