Moped Driver Identified After Fatal Accident

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Richland County Coroner Gary Watts released the name of the individual that died Thursday, as a result of a moped crash last Saturday in the 300 block of Taylor Street .

Watts said 61-year-old Johnny Sparrow of West Columbia was driving a moped when he struck a curb and was thrown off the vehicle.

Sparrow who was not wearing a helmet died from complications of blunt force trauma to the head, Watts said.

The wreck happened around 9:30 p.m. on December 12.

The Columbia Police Department continue to investigate.
