COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Officers are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Saturday morning on Lady Street.
Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook says a man was shot around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, on the 1000 block of Lady Street. Chief Holbrook says several people witnessed the shooting.
Officers responded to a shots fired call, finding an unresponsive man on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.
Officials say EMS transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. No one else was injured during the incident.
Preliminary information indicates the victim was leaving Club Rue 77, located at 1301 Assembly Street, with several other people before the shooting happened.
At this time, police say the shooting does not appear to be a random act of violence. Investigators believe the incident might have stemmed from a fight between at least two groups.
Several witnesses tell CPD the shots were fired from a black and gray Chevy Avalanche. CPD is releasing a surveillance picture of the vehicle to determine the identity of the suspect (s) and generate tips.
