COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The South Carolina Chapter of the NAACP is preparing for the annual King Day at the Dome next Monday.

Participants will march from Zion Baptist Church to the State House steps on Monday, January 18.

Organizers say in honor of Dr. King they will focus the event on #SCEducationEquity.

The event is held annually on Martin Luther King Day at the South Carolina State House to commemorate Dr. King’s life and to draw attention to economic and educational inequalities organizer’s say persist in the state.

This will be the first year that the event will be held without the Confederate battle flag flying in front of the State House building.

SCHEDULE

* 8:30AM – Prayer Service at Zion Baptist Church
* 9:30AM – March line up at Zion Baptist Church
* 10:15AM – Rally at SC State House steps
