Town of North gets new police chief
NORTH, S.C. (AP) _ The Orangeburg County town of North is getting a police chief again.
The entire three-member department quit last year.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports that Lin Shirer, who is currently assistant police chief of Elloree, will begin duties as the new North police chief Jan. 19.
Members of the town council were told Tuesday that applications are still being accepted for the town’s two other vacant police positions.
Former police chief Mark Fallaw resigned last month citing differences with Mayor Patty Carson.
The town’s other officers resigned in October and November, leaving the community of 750 people without a police force. The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department has provided protection for the town in the interim.
