DOT Director to Give Update on South Carolina’s Roads

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The interim director of South Carolina’s roads agency is getting ready to make her case to get the job permanently and also tell lawmakers what she needs.

Christy Hall will appear before the Senate Transportation Committee on Wednesday for her confirmation hearing. She also is expected to tell lawmakers the status of her agency and South Carolina’s poorly-maintained roads.

Business leaders have pressed the Legislature to get more money for roads and bridges for two years. But while the House passed a plan to raise gas taxes to bring in about $400 million along with an income tax cut, the Senate has not passed a plan.

South Carolina’s roads took another big blow in October’s floods, which damaged or destroyed more than 500 roads and bridges. Most have been repaired.
