Coroner: Coastal Carolina Student Died of Natural Causes

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 21-year-old Coastal Carolina University art student found dead in a dormitory room died of natural causes.

Horry Country Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick tells local news outlets that an autopsy revealed Sunday that Brandon Devere Scott had a history of cardiac problems and died of natural causes. No foul play is suspected.

Scott’s body was found inside a university residence hall on Saturday morning.

Officials say Scott was a junior art studio major from North Charleston.

University spokeswoman Martha Hunn says students are participating in the planning for a memorial service for Scott, but it could be a week or more before plans are finalized.
