Nearly 200 Participate in Statehouse Health Screenings

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Nearly 200 people have committed to an effort intended to make South Carolina’s Statehouse a healthier place.

The South Carolina Hospital Association says that 185 people have pledged to participate in A Healthier Statehouse, including 113 legislators and former Govs. Jim Hodges and Dick Riley.

Several constitutional officers and dozens of Statehouse staff and lobbyists are also committing to achieving better health and being more physically active.

Health screenings are also part of the effort, and the association says that 116 people have been screened so far.

Various hospitals as well as the Departments of Health and Environmental Control and Parks, Recreation and Tourism are also supporting the program, providing the assessments, as well as opportunities to get physically active.
