Watch: Tracy’s Logging Begins Clean-up After Microburst

Tracy's Logging began cleaning up debris after being hit during Wednesday's severe storm

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — The National Weather Service has confirmed a microburst in Lexington County during Wednesday’s severe storm.

On Thursday, crews worked to clean up the debris scattered across Tracy’s Logging, one of the places hit by the storm. The National Weather Service said the microburst that hit the area packed 70 mph winds, strong enough to leave it’s mark.
“When I looked out you could see the whole chicken house over there all the sudden it’s like it comes down as the tin started swirling off it, debris started flying like it was coming across the field and when I saw this shed here at my uncles I saw it hit the ground,” said witness Jody Gunter.
Gunter said the microburst lasted about 30 seconds.
“I could hear the tin and debris and stuff like that and 10-15 seconds after I was in the hallway it just got quiet,” explained Gunter.
The storm damaged a hay shed, ripped off the roof of several buildings and damaged several cars.
“I’ve spent my lifetime right here in this place, I’ve built buildings and you realize how temporary those things are how quickly they can be gone but at the same time you just ask yourself well what do you do, you pick up the pieces you go back again,” said owner Tracy Gunter.
While they pick up the pieces, Gunter said he is most thankful for one thing.
“The good Lord took care of everybody and everybody was safe,” said Gunter. “We can put the building back but people are a little more precious than that.”
Tracy’s Logging hopes to have all the repairs complete in 6-8 weeks.
