Oscar-Nominee Angela Bassett to Visit Claflin, SC State

Angela BassettORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO) — Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett will be at two HBCUs Tuesday afternoon in an effort to promote voter registration throughout the Palmetto State.

Bassett will be at South Carolina State University at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium for the Get Out the Vote (GOTV) rally.

Following the event at S.C. State, the What’s Love Go to Do With It actress will be at Claflin University at 4p.m. in the W.V. Middleton Fine Arts Center.

Admission to both events are free.

Bassett is best known for her biographical film roles, most notably her Academy Award-nominated performance as Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It. In addition, Bassett has portrayed Betty Shabazz in Malcolm X and Panther, Rosa Parks inThe Rosa Parks Story, Coretta Scott King in Betty and Coretta, Katherine Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream, and Voletta Wallace in Notorious.
