Watch: Senator Marco Rubio Campaigns in Columbia
Following the New Hampshire primary, Senator Marco Rubio stopped in the midlands to hold a rally.
Columbia , S.C. (WOLO) — Ahead of the first-in-the-south primary, candidates are descending on the Palmetto state. On Wednesday, Marco Rubio stopped in Columbia to hold a rally with supporters.
Rubio returned to South Carolina one day after earning a 5th place finish in the New Hampshire primary.
“Our team worked really hard and it just didn’t work out as well as we wanted to but we feel great about it here, this is a strong conservative state and it’s right up our alley in terms of policies,” said Rubio.
Currently trailing Trump and Cruz in the South Carolina polls, Rubio highlighted his campaign agenda focused on rebuilding the nation’s military, higher education, and national security.
Several supporters believe Rubio’s message makes him a strong candidate to be Commander in Chief.
“He meets all the constitutional requirements and we certainly need a leader,” said June Cook.
“He’s young, energetic and he’s the only candidate to have policy written out the first day,” said John Daback.
However, some supporters would also like to see more specifics on certain issues, such as social security, laid out.
Rubio said he will be returning to the Palmetto state several times in the next 10 days before voters head to the polls for the Republican primary February 20th.
