Watch: Will NH Momentum Carry Candidates in SC Primary

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) —  Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump riding high off big victories in New Hampshire.

But, can that momentum carry the candidates through the first in the South?
According to Charles Bierbauer Dean of USC’s College of Journalism, the New Hampshire results have implications for each candidate.
Bierbauer  tells ABC Columbia, “Trump’s win in New Hampshire makes him a much stronger contender. The breadth of Sander’s victory over Clinton she would have hoped for a single digit loss not more than 20%.”
For the GOP, Bierbauer says South Carolina results will rely heavily on if candidates can challenge Trump.
He  explains, “If you added up all of the second third fourth and fifth place finishers they would have beaten trump if they were one person but as long as they’re still all in this then Trump has a good separation from the pack.”
For the Democrats, Bierbauer predicts a race decided by the African American vote, “Long history of the Clintons with African American voters but Bernie Sanders is saying things about universal health care, that certainly would appeal to lower income strata black or white.”
While issues vary by party representatives say voters are listening for solutions to South Carolinian problems.
According to Matt Moore, Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party, “National Security and economic security people want our country to be kept safe but they also want opportunity they want jobs for their families.”
While Jaime Harrison, Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party says,”They have to talk about health care. we have to talk about the crumbling schools and crumbling infrastructure we have here in the state.”
These topics will be heavy on the minds of South  Carolina voters when they cast their ballots.
