Richland County Sheriff’s Dept. Launches New Phone App
Columbia , S.C. (WOLO) — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department launched a new mobile app for midlands residents this week. The app was launched in an effort to stay up to date with modern technology and provide a medium for citizens to find information quickly about the Sheriff’s Department.
“We wanted to be able to be in the palm of our citizens hands at all times,” said Deputy Katelyn Jasak.
The Sheriff’s Department app gives residents access to neighborhood crime maps, safety reminders, and sends them crime alerts in real-time. The crime alerts serve as an efficient way to get important messages out to citizens, similar to a breaking news alert.
“Whether it’s a missing person or there was a robbery in the area, we can tell them instantaneously what’s going on so they can be safer and more informed,” said Jasak.
The app may also help the Sheriff’s Department combat crime. By visiting the app, citizens can submit a tip, providing as many details as they wish, including a picture.
The Sheriff’s Department reminds citizens if there is an emergency, do not rely on the app, call 911 immediately.
