Duo Sought After Stolen Car Crashes Into Brick Pillar
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Authorities with the Columbia Police Department are looking for two car thieves after they allegedly fired shots from the vehicle they were in.
Two male suspects bailed from the stolen vehicle after it crashed into the brick pillar of a subdivision Monday afternoon near New Castle, according to Columbia police.
A Toyota Camry was reportedly stolen from the New Castle home in Richland County, officials say.
The victim who identified herself as Letitia Baskett tells CPD that she left the keys in the ignition before going to work.
Baskett says, “I wanted to warm up the car. I went back inside of my house for a few seconds, came back out, and my car was gone!”
Hours later, Baskett’s son spotted the stolen car near Farrow Road and followed it a short distance.
He caught up with the suspects, talked with them and demanded that they get out of his mother’s vehicle.
The suspects ran off the road and crashed into the Greenview neighborhood sign at the intersection of Farrow Road and Easter Street in the city limits. No word if the suspect’s sustained any injuries in the crash.
Baskett adds, “These two young thugs took off my hubcaps and put a paper tag on the car. There were paper tags under the seat so they can go and do more stealing.”
The victim’s son tells CPD that at least one of the suspects shot at him at Farrow Road and Easter Street while he tried to run after them. “A car is a car. It can be replaced,” Baskett says. “I’m glad nothing happened to my son.” The male victim was not injured during incident.
The suspects, possibly juveniles are described as being dark-skinned males with a “low” haircut.
One was last seen wearing a black jacket and black shirt and blue jeans.
The other was last seen wearing blue and white jeans and a white sweater.
