Sumter, S.C. (WOLO) — A group of students with disabilities were left on a broken down school bus for hours.

According to a spokesperson for the Sumter County School District the bus broke down Monday near the intersection of Highway 378 and St. Paul Church Rd.

A district official says the route’s normal drivers were out sick and the substitute driver did not have contact information for the students’ parents leaving some students stranded until 8:30 Monday evening.

The district says Superintendent Dr. Frank Baker met with the district’s transportation officials to ensure it never happens again.
