Police: Two Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) — A welfare-check after a 6-year-old child was not picked up from school on Wednesday, lead to the discovery of two bodies in what authorities say was a murder-suicide.
Officials say the school’s resource officer knocked on the door of a residence on Amsterdam Drive around 4 p.m. attempting to make contact with the parent; there was no response, but the deputy could hear that the television was on inside the apartment.
Sheriff Leon Lott said that maintenance for the complex was called to open the door.
Deputies found the victim and suspect both lying on the floor with gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victims as 34-year-old Stephanie Wallace and 32-year-old Keith Wallace.
Watts said the female victim died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head, the suspect, her estranged husband died as a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities say investigators are continuing to examine the evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.
