WATCH: Gov. John Kasich Profile
Columbia , S.C. (WOLO) — This week on ABC Columbia, our team is profiling each GOP candidate ahead of the first in the south primary.
High off his success in New Hampshire, where he finished 2nd, presidential hopeful John Kasich continues his quest towards the oval office.
“I don’t know if you noticed, we did pretty well in New Hampshire,” said Gov. Kasich.
In a tense and sometimes nasty GOP race, the Ohio governor is playing Mr. Nice Guy by avoiding heated feuds with other candidates and instead centering his campaign on bringing Americans together.
“If we want to solve the problems at the border, social security, wage growth, balancing budgets, if we want to do these things, you can’t do it with just one party,” explained Kasich.
Kasich cites his experience helping balance the federal budget as one example of how he can work with others to get things done, his vision for the future includes strengthening the economy.
Among his contenders, Kasich and Donald Trump differ on the issue of immigration. Trump called for millions of illegal immigrants to be deported.
“We have 11 and a half million people here,” said Kasich. “If they haven’t committed a crime since they’ve been here make them pay a fine and some back taxes and give them a path to legalization never to citizenship.”
During a South Carolina rally, Governor Kasich was caught in a heart-warming moment that’s gone viral after a supporter explained a dark time in his life.
“You got to celebrate peoples wins and sometimes you’ve got to sit down with them and cry,” said Kasich after the town hall.
Kasich will campaign in the Palmetto State Friday night but head to Massachusetts Saturday.
