WATCH: Marco Rubio Profile
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — This week on ABC Columbia, our team will be profiling each GOP candidate ahead of the first in the south primary.
In almost every national poll, Florida Senator Marco Rubio falls in 3rd including in South Carolina. With the support of Governor Nikki Haley, Marco Rubio is hoping to sway voters and prevent the same outcome he saw in Iowa and New Hampshire.
‘A New American Century,’ that’s the vision of Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign. The son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio’s campaign focuses on restoring the American dream by improving the economy through tax reforms, repealing Obamacare and strengthening our nation’s military.
“I have more foreign policy and national security experience than everyone else left in this race on the republican side combined,” said Rubio.
The Florida senator is earning major support from South Carolina politicians, Governor Nikki Haley endorsed Rubio just days before the primary.
“I wanted someone who has conviction to do the right thing,” said Governor Haley.
South Carolina Senator Tim Scott and Representative Trey Gowdy have also been joining Rubio on the campaign trail.
“South Carolina let me tell you, if we nominate Marco Rubio I promise you he will be the next President of the United States,” said Representative Gowdy.
Rubio finished 3rd in Iowa and slipped to 5th in New Hampshire, blaming his poor debate performance for New Hampshires setback. Many criticized Rubio for his rehearsed answers.
“The bottom line is I had a choice to make at the debate and I chose not to attack another republican cause I didn’t want to turn it into a republican-unrepublican fight,” explained Rubio.
The Florida senator currently serving his 2nd term in the US Senate has been scrutinized by some politicians for his lack of attendance on the senate floor and for his young age, but with the support of several South Carolina politicians is hoping to rebound and come out on top in the Palmetto State.
“We make presidents!,” said Governor Haley at a Marco Rubio rally. “Let’s make Marco Rubio the next president of the United States, God Bless!”
