19-Year-Old Man gets 45 Years in Chester Slaying
CHESTER, S.C. (AP) _ The attorney for a Chester man who was sentenced to 45 years in prison for a shooting death two years ago says he will appeal the sentence as too harsh.
The Herald of Rock Hill reports that 19-year-old Robert Isaiah Graham was sentenced Monday.
Graham pleaded guilty to murder last year in the death of 16-year-old Shyheim Kennedy. Authorities say the victim was shot on a street just a block from the Chester Police Department during an argument that resulted from trash talking.
Graham faced a minimum of 30 years in prison but could have received up to life in prison without parole.
While prosecutors wanted life, public defender Mike Lifsey argued a sentence of 30 years was sufficient.
