Another Week Ends with No Votes on Road Funding in SC Senate
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Another week has ended in the South Carolina Senate without any votes on getting more money to state roads.
Sen. Lee Bright continued a filibuster Thursday that began last week and the Senate adjourned for the week with him on the floor.
Bright says he has a half-dozen senators willing to help him keep the bill from a vote, but he did not name them all. The Spartanburg Republican says they cannot let a tax increase pass without doing all they can to stop it.
Senate President Pro Tem High Leatherman says he has all the patience in the world.
But pressure is mounting. The state Chamber of Commerce says it’s time to vote, or senators show they would rather pay for auto claims from pothole damage than safe roads.
