Street Closed After US Attorney Receives Suspicious Letter

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a busy downtown Charleston street was closed during rush hour after a suspicious letter with a white powdery substance was received at the office of the U.S. Attorney.

A Charleston Fire Department hazardous materials team and Charleston police responded in the heart of the city’s historic district Wednesday afternoon.

Meeting Street in front of the building housing the office was closed for several hours.

The street was reopened after authorities determined the substance was talcum powder.
